So on Sunday the 3rd of February I went to see Hayley Kiyoko with one of my absolute best friends, Louis!
She was so great – her voice sounded exactly like it does on her album, and the choreography was on point. She seems to genuinely care about her fans, too – at one point she stopped the show completely because a security guard kept shining his flashlight into people’s faces. (A lot of people also threw bras onto the stage, which I thought was hilarious. I didn’t know people still did that!!)
Anyway, I thought I would take this opportunity to talk about one of the topics I am most passionate about – bisexual representation! (Particularly in the Year of our Lord 20biteen). I’ve written about being bisexual before, as well as put together a list of some of my favourite books which have bisexual characters. I’ve also got a Goodreads shelf of bisexual books! (Go on and add me on Goodreads if you haven’t already!)
Ben @ Ace of Bens put together a brilliant list of bisexual books that are releasing in 2019! I didn’t even realise that some of these books had bi characters/protagonists, so I would definitely check that out!
Ben, Tay Stay On The Page and Madalyn @ Novel Ink have also put together a pun-tastic blogging event called On A Case Bi Case Basis: What “Bi” Means To Me. Bisexual and/or biromantic bloggers are coming together to talk about being bi, and I am super excited to read all of the different answers! I might be sending in my own, I’m not sure.
Author Christina Neuwirth has pledged to only read books by bisexual authors this year, and/or books about bisexual/non-monosexual attraction. I think this is an awesome goal! Although I don’t think I could read only bisexual books, because I read over 100 books a year, I would definitely love to do a month of just reading bisexual books, or something like that! Some of the books she intends to read include:
- Days Without End by Sebastian Barry
- Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
- Ramona Blue by Julie Murphy
I guess I just have a couple questions for you, regarding some potential bi content! Would you like me to discuss a bit more about my experiences of being bi? Or interview some authors about representing bisexuality/non-monosexual sexualities in books? I’m thinking about maybe reviewing some movies with bisexual characters in them – would you be interested in that? Let me know!

I really like the idea of reviewing movies with bi characters. Especially considering I can’t think of a single one? Which is sad.

Yay, thank you! Just do what you’re comfortable with, and don’t compare yourself to what I write! I have like…no boundaries on the internet.
The only ones that really spring to mind are Thirteen from House, and the main character in the new Netflix horror movie Velvet Buzzsaw. (Which was pretty crap if I’m honest.) I’ll have to do my research!

The ideas you have sound amazing! I really love projects like this, whether people are talking about their sexuality, ethnicity, or whatever. It’s a way to express diversity in our community, and I think a lot of people would appreciate reading about your experience & other authors’ as well.
Also, Hailey Kiyoko sounds amazing indeed. I really like her, but I’m the worst at listening to an artist’s full work and I typically just listen to a couple songs here and there. But she’s a queen ever since Lemonade Mouth days, hahah. I should definitely listen to her more often!

I’m exactly the same! I might listen to one or two songs, tops. But with her I actually made the effort. And haha, she really is a queen!

Yassss “The year of our Lord 20biteen” This is amazing! I will definitely make an effort to read some bi-sexual representation this year. Only… I don’t know much about it in books. I’d love to read a post with is a list of bi-sexual representation books. I’d also love to read about what it means to you to be bi-sexual. Perhaps that is a series of posts, honestly. There might be a few facets to explore – on a personal level, a romantic level, and a societal level, I imagine?
Keep us abreast of all your progress! I am excited to learn as much as I can.
