where are the books?! aka pokemon has taken over my life…

My reading has accidentally gone out the window. Let’s talk about why!

Firstly, I’ve been having a bit of a reading slump these past couple of weeks. I think it’s because I gave myself a set TBR, and I’ve been trying really hard to stick to it. This tends to make me less likely to read, because I’m stubborn as heck and I want to read what I’m in the mood for! Also I’ve been really trying to read ARCs, which is stressing me out a little bit.

And then…my partner and I bought a Nintendo Switch, and got Pokemon Sword. I’ve never had a games console before, so that alone was very exciting. And combined with Pokemon?! (I’ve played a little bit of Pokemon Black & White on the Nintendo DS a couple of years ago, but that’s about it.) It’s been so fun to properly explore a Pokemon world, and because I don’t have a lot of knowledge about it, it’s a really magical, childlike experience. Before now I’d only heard of the big guys like Pikachu and Charmander, so even when I discover an original Pokemon, it’s still a new and exciting experience. (Also there are SO MANY cute types!)

Yamper is an electric-type Pokemon that looks like a corgi!

And even though Pokemon is a one-player game (my partner and I haven’t splurged and bought the online stuff yet, we might do in the future), it’s been a really fun thing to play with my partner, because he knows a lot more about Pokemon than I do. I can go into a battle and then ask him what type I should use, and things like that. But because this is also a new game, there are lots of different areas that we’re exploring together for the first time! He’s a little bit ahead of me, but I’ve been doing more online research, so we’re sharing a lot of cool features with each other.

So, what does this all mean? Firstly, I’m going to continue to keep a vague blogging schedule, but because I’m doing a lot less reading, at least at the moment, this might become a bit tricky. (I’ve also been hitting a blogging slump, which doesn’t help.) I might go on a brief end-of-year hiatus, because I’m feeling quite tired in terms of blogging and reading. This wouldn’t be for long, and I’ll definitely keep you updated. I’m also considering doing a couple of weeks of blogging that are less book related, though I’m not too sure what I would be writing about. (If you have any requests for content about mental health, other media such as TV or movies, or something completely different, let me know!)

Finally, this also means that I am looking for game recommendations!! I’d love to try some indie games, and some horror games as well. I would also love to put together a list of some of the best games for people who like good storytelling, or games that are based on books, so if you have any recommendations for those, please leave a comment!

To wrap up, even though I’m not necessarily reading a ton, I’m having such a great time exploring Pokemon and gaming. I’m hoping that I can pick things back up with the blog, and if I need a break, I will take a short one. How has your blogging been going? Let me know, and add the name of your favourite game, too!
