the audiobook tag

I saw this audiobook tag on Sunlight and Stories, and since I’ve been listening to audiobooks in these last couple of weeks, I thought I would answer some questions about them. Unfortunately I don’t know who created the tag, sorry!

Have you always listened to audiobooks or when did you begin?

I think I have some fuzzy memories of taking some of the Harry Potter books out of the library via cassette (that early 2000s life!!) but other than that, I don’t remember listening to audiobooks much. And I literally just discovered them about two weeks ago when I was super bored doing data-entry at work!

What is your favourite audiobook?

Lol as I’ve only listened to two I don’t really think I can answer that question! The two I’ve listened to are Invisible Women and The Five and I really enjoyed both.

What is your least favourite thing about audiobooks?

I think that the one thing that I don’t like so much is that I sometimes blank out and miss what the narrator is saying – but that’s more to do with me than the audiobook! Also, I live right next to a pretty busy train track, and when the trains go past they sometimes drown out the audiobook, which is a bit of a pain.

What do you think is the difference in experience between physically reading a book and listening to it?

So far, I think that I am taking in and remembering more of the narrative when I listen to it. This might be because it takes longer for a book to be read aloud, so I’m thinking about it for longer, too. Also I sometimes accidentally skim read a bit too fast, so that hinders my memory as well.

How and when do you listen?

So I currently only have the Audible app on my phone, so I just lay it out on my desk whilst I’m doing boring tasks at work such as data entry. I’ve also requested a couple of audiobooks on my library app, too.

What style/genre do you prefer?

So far both of the audiobooks I’ve listened to have been nonfiction, which has worked out super well for me. I have got a bunch of other audiobooks though, such as The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, The Gilded Wolves, and Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine. I’m interested to see how well I’ll get on with them!

What are some audiobook/narrator recommendations?

Lol I don’t have any, sorry! But if you have any recommendations for me, let me know!

I prefer listening to nonfiction audiobooks because if I miss a small detail for some reason then I’m not really missing part of a huge, intricate plot. Great tag!

I don’t really listen to audiobooks because I can’t pay attention! Unless I’m holding the book in my hands! I wish I could though, then I’d be able to listen to books in the car. 😔 I’ve heard so many good things about he Sadie audiobook though that I might just have to give it a shot!
