I am a really big fan of the holidays. Without a doubt it is my favourite time of year with all the twinkling lights and amazing food and general cheer. So, as Christmas is just days away, I thought I would do this Christmas tag!
1. Do you prefer giving or receiving gifts?
This is a difficult one. I think I like them both equally? I really enjoy picking out the perfect gift for people, and thinking of really innovative presents that they didn’t realise they needed in their lives! But like, I’m also always looking forward to presents for me too!
2. Do you make and stick to new year’s resolutions?
Absolutely not. Every year I get more and more annoyed by New Year’s resolutions, because they’re so unrealistic. This might sound a bit negative, but my reasoning is that you’re the same person you were on December 31st. Why think you’re going to magically change on January 1st? And the general focus on dieting really gets to me, too.
3. Have you ever made a snowman?
Never!! *cries* I’ve only spent a couple of years in the UK, and the one time it snowed enough to make a snowman I was stuck in the house with a broken ankle! I’m hoping that I’ll get the opportunity to make a snowman and snow angels soon though!
4. Is your Christmas tree real or fake, and what theme do you prefer?
This year it is going to be fake because I’m going to my partner’s parents’ house. However, I always had a real tree when I was growing up, so that’s what I would like in the future. (How that’s going to play out with a cat remains to be seen!) I definitely prefer a classic red and green theme, with a bit of gold. I have an irrational hatred of trees that are bright colours like pink, especially when they’re paired with multicoloured flashing lights. The classic look for me, please!
5. Most memorable holiday moment?
Um, I’m not sure! Every holiday is pretty much the same – and I quite like that!
6. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to this year?
Well this is the first year that I’m not having Christmas with my family! My boyfriend’s family goes for Thai food on Christmas Eve which I’m looking forward to.
7. What is the best Christmas present you have ever received?
A signed copy of Terry Pratchett’s and Neil Gaiman’s Good Omens! I actually cried.
8. What are your favourite holiday foods?
MINCE PIES. STUFFING. Not a food, but EGG NOG. I love holiday-specific foods, because they feel so special! Oh, and PANETTONE.
9. What is your favourite Christmas film?
Everyone’s problematic fave, Love Actually. I watch it at least twice every December. I also really love the Muppets Christmas Carol and can sing all of the songs by heart. However I am in the mood for finding new holiday movies, so hit me up with recommendations! (I’ve seen most of the old ones.)
10. What is your favourite Christmas song?
I mean the classic is Mariah Carey! I pretty much like all Christmas songs though – I blast them all December long.
11. What is your favourite thing about Christmas?
Spending time at home, relaxing, good food!
12. What would be your dream place to visit at Christmas time?
I would love to go to Disney World for Christmas. It wouldn’t bother me that it wouldn’t be cold because I grew up in Bermuda. (If we wanted the fire on, we would have to put the air conditioning on first!) There are Christmas-specific parades and fireworks, and the whole place gets beautifully decorated. I’d love to combine my favourite place and my favourite holiday!
13. Who do you spend Christmas with?
Usually with family, but this year I’m with the in-laws.
14. When do you start getting excited for Christmas?
Like, November 20th. I held off on the Christmas carols until December 1st this year, but that was me really restraining myself.
15. You have one Christmas wish- what will it be?
Free books for all!!
