buzzfeed unsolved book tag

So in the past couple of weeks, I have become a BIG Buzzfeed Unsolved fan. I had heard about it, but before this month I’d never been all that interested in true crime or ghosthunting or anything like that. And then…I got in the mood for something SPOOPY.

The BuzzFeed Unsolved Book Tag was created by Sarah @ The YA Room.

SHANIAC: A book you don’t think is deserving of its hype.

This is a pretty controversial opinion, but I’m not sure that Madeline Miller deserves all the hype she gets – Song of Achilles was good, but I thought Circe was really slow. I will say that her language is beautiful. But that’s not quite enough for me.

BOOGARA: A book that chilled you to the core.

I haven’t read all that many scary books (working on it!) but I have to say that when I read Misery by Stephen King when I was 15 it scared the ABSOLUTE SHIT OUT OF ME. I’ve always meant to revisit King – maybe I’ll do that soon.

SHITFISH: A book you’re not sure where you stand on.

I recently read The Gracekeepers by Kirsty Logan, after being blown away by her short story collection The Rental Heart. In some ways, it was great. The world she created was unlike anything I’ve read before, and the writing was stunning. But I just felt like the characters were lacking.

HEY THERE DEMONS, IT’S ME, YA BOI: A book that kept you up at night.

THIS IS THE GIF THAT GOT ME INTO BUZZFEED UNSOLVED! Every time I see it I burst out laughing. Uhh, I think the last book that had me up into the wee hours of the morning was probably Gemina. I’ve been meaning to finish the Illuminae Files series.

(WHEEZE): A book that made you laugh out loud.

Always always ALWAYS Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson. I don’t often laugh out loud to books, but this made me cackle so hard! It’s also a great look at mental illness, too.

MOTHMAN: A hyped fave.

For this one I’m going to have to go with Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde. It is certainly hyped, and for good reason! There were so many facets of myself that I could see in Charlie and Taylor ❤

HOLY WATER: A book you’d protect with your life.

giphy

Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. This is the first book I properly became obsessed with as a teenager, and it has impacted my life more than I can say. If the TV series coming out next year isn’t any good, I am definitely going to grab my holy water.

DEMONS: A book you’re too scared to read.

large

Hmm, right now I’m feeling pretty brave when it comes to actual content, but I’ve always been scared of trying to read It by Stephen King. This is because of the content, sure, but also because it is SO. DAMN. LONG!

BUT FOR NOW, THIS MYSTERY WILL REMAIN… UNSOLVED: A book you needed more from / didn’t want to end.

tumblr_oyi70ltyr51sp316xo1_540

This Savage Song and Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab. I read both of these in about two days, and I did not want them to end! The world was so fascinating, and I LOVED the characters. The ending was perfect, but still, I wish there had been more!

BUZZFEED UNSOLVED POSTMORTEM: A book you still have questions about.

tumblr_p592egHbXy1qmfn0xo1_500

Uhh, probably The City of Brass by S.A. Chakraborty. Like WTF WAS THAT ENDING? and HOW ARE MY FAVES DOING NOW? I can’t wait until Kingdom of Copper comes out next year.

HOT DAGA: A trashy fave.

tumblr_p4g6n7mnh01t59uhzo4_500

First of all, I don’t really consider any book trashy. Anything that women read tends to be labelled as ‘trashy’ or ‘a guilty pleasure’ and that’s just sexist. Saying that, I recently read A Marriage of Unconvenience by Chelsea M. Cameron, which was a delightful f/f romance.

These are some extra questions from Lauren @ Wonderless Reviews!

HOLLY HORSLEY: A favourite crime/thriller book.

tumblr_inline_p4foof9Lie1stz7bo_540

For me it’s a tie between some of the best Sherlock Holmes stories (Greek Interpreter, Speckled Band, Dancing Men) and Death on the Nile by Agatha Christie. I love it for the mystery, and because I studied it at university, and it really opened my eyes about how she crafts these perfect crimes.

RICKY GOLDSWORTH: A character you love with your entire being but they could potentially want to kill you.

tumblr_oyxgml7aVM1wbdbyeo2_400

I’m having a really hard time thinking of an answer for this one – maybe Sherlock Holmes, because I’m a little in love with him and would want to go on all his adventures, whilst inevitably getting in his way!

THE GHOUL BOYS: Your favourite BuzzFeed Unsolved episode.

This one is a classic!

Hahaha– what a fun tag! I don’t watch anything like TV, so this is a new show to me. I’m always astounded for some reason when new shows are developed which have NO AFFILIATION WITH A NETWORK. This has been happening for YEARS and yet each time: Mind. Blown.

I am with you on protecting Good Omens with my life. Even though I don’t watch TV I will 100% be watching this television adaption. I ❤ Crowley.

I know what you mean! I love shows that don’t have an affiliation, I think it allows them to explore things that more conservative networks won’t.
Haha this might be weird but I’ve always loved Aziraphale just that little bit more? Crowley is a sweet cinnamon roll but I love the ‘is an angel, but also a bit of a dick’ aspect to Aziraphale. And y’know, the whole book obsession. I feel that!

I look forward to seeing how these characters are portrayed. In my version of this book, these two have a tight, tight bromance. I mean, you can’t have lived and fought for centuries without developing feelings for each other! I hope that comes across in the series. ❤
