mid year freak out tag

It is Juuuuuuune! And that means one thing when it comes to blogging and tags – the mid year freak out tag! I wasn’t tagged, but I wanted to do it anyway!

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ YET IN 2018

I don’t know whether it is definitively the best book I’ve read, but I really enjoyed Final Draft by Riley Redgate. The main character is a fat, pansexual and biracial girl with anxiety, and I connected to her on a multitude of levels.

BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2016

I don’t tend to read series, so I think The Other Half of Happiness is the only sequel that I’ve read so far this year! This is the second book in the Sofia Khan series, and I read it for the Ramadan Readathon.

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET BUT WANT TO

I can’t believe that I haven’t got to Bruja Born yet!

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

I have a lot of books that I’m looking forward to, but the one that really stands out right now is Muse of Nightmares.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

I Was Born for This was a bit of a disappointment for me. It was my first Alice Oseman, and although I liked how it tackled fandom, it just felt messy.

BIGGEST SURPRISE

I was super surprised by Dietland – this is a very weird book! It’s a mishmash of body positivity, thriller, and feminist manifesto.

FAVOURITE NEW AUTHOR

Carmen Maria Machado, author of Her Body and Other Parties. I will definitely be reading everything that she comes out with, from now on! This was one of my top reads of this year so far.

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH

N/A, because I don’t have crushes on fictional characters.

NEWEST FAVOURITE CHARACTER

Emmy from The Brightsiders was so unapologetic about who she was and her queerness, and Millie from Puddin’ was so inspiring for me!

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

The Astonishing Colour of After by Emily X R Pan made me cry so much. If you can brave the triggers, you absolutely must read this book.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

I laughed myself silly when reading Furiously Happy. A funny book about depression and anxiety?! You’ll have to read to find out!

FAVOURITE BOOK TO FILM ADAPTATION

Love, Simon was absolutely beautiful and amazing and made me cry so much.

FAVOURITE POST YOU HAVE DONE THIS YEAR

I think my favourite post I’ve written this year is the epic mental health book rec list!

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT THIS YEAR

My copy of Children of Blood and Bone had beautiful red sprayed edges and I just CANNOT.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR

What If It’s Us and Girl Made of Stars.

If you want to do this tag, consider yourself tagged!

I ended up having to DNF Astonishing Colour… because of the triggers. One day when I’m stronger and braver, I do hope to pick it up again as the story is so beautifully written, from what I had read thus far.

I love Jenny Lawson! Have you read Let’s Pretend This Never Happened as well? She’s just the best, and I love how she manages to talk about her experiences with such humor, but not in a way that diminishes them. She’s brilliant.
