If you think I’ve got a lot of hardcopy books, you’ve got another thing coming – I have infinitely more Kindle books. I’m a bit of a guru for finding deals and sales for diverse books that I want to read. So here’s a list of my top 5 books on my Kindle!
- The Astonishing Colour of After – Emily X R Pan
I absolutely NEED a hard copy of this book. Leigh is a biracial girl who loses her mother to suicide. It has a hard-hitting look at grief and depression, with a fabulist twist. This was one of the best books I’ve read so far this year.
- This Will Be My Undoing – Morgan Jerkins
This is a look at being black and female in white America. Morgan Jerkins is only in her twenties but she already speaks so eloquently about a wide range of intersecting topics. She talks frankly about sex and her labiaplasty in this excellent work of nonfiction.
- Paperweight – Meg Haston
Paperweight is one of the books I read during this year’s Mental Health Book Bingo. Stevie has been sent to an eating disorder treatment centre in the middle of nowhere. This is a dark book that looks at toxic relationships and mental health.
- Everything I Never Told You – Celeste Ng
THIS BOOK. It is no secret that I absolutely adore Everything I Never Told You, and need to get myself a hardcopy. It follows Lydia, a biracial teenager who is dead. It follows the reasons for her death and is a close look at being Chinese-American.
- Knit One Girl Two – Shira Glassman
This is the cutest damn thing that I have ever read. Clara is a yarn dyer who takes inspiration from Danielle’s paintings of Florida wildlife, not realising that this collaboration may lead to something more! This is a Jewish f/f romance that I absolutely LIVE for.
Some books on my Kindle that I desperately want to read include:
- The Trauma Cleaner – Sarah Krasnostein
- Radio Silence – Alice Oseman
- The Bone Witch – Rin Chupeco
- Brit(ish) – Afua Hirsch
- The Poet X – Elizabeth Acevedo
