Hiya folks! As many of you know, I’ve been living in London for the past couple of months whilst I’ve been doing my Masters in Publishing. Now that is winding down, I’m going to go over some of the bookish events I’ve managed to attend during my time in the big city!
Most recently, I attended an event with Angie Thomas. This was done through Waterstones (as were all the events I’ve gone to recently). Angie talked about lots of interesting things, including code-switching, representation, and she even did a rap from her new book, On the Come Up! I also met Avery @ redrocketpanda which was great!
I also went to an event for Muhammad Khan’s I Am Thunder. This is a story about Muzna, a Muslim teenager. It was really interesting to hear Muhammad Khan talk about the inspiration he got from teaching Maths at a local school, and how he wanted to tell a story that talked about a multitude of Muslim experiences.
I finally went to an event with Ruby Tandoh (of Great British Bake Off fame) and Bethany Rutter. This was all about body confidence and the way that society polices fat female bodies. They were also talking about their recent publications – Eat Up and Plus+. I picked up a copy of Eat Up a couple of days later because I couldn’t stop thinking about it! At some point I would love to get a copy of Plus+, which is a coffee table book of plus size fashion.
To wrap this up, I also visited the Sherlock house with one of my friends! I used to be absolute Sherlock trash (I wrote fanfic and everything!) so this brought me back to when I was 16 and loving life.
That’s it for me today – if you’d like more updates about what I’m doing IRL, let me know!
