Everyone is raving about Children of Blood and Bone – and for good reason! I’ve just started it and am very intrigued. This tag was originally created by Bec’s Books. The graphics were created by Sarah @ WrittenWordWorlds – thank you so much for allowing me to use them!
What’s a trope you’d love to see die, and one you’d love to see live, or flourish more often?
I’ve talked about this a couple of times, but I would love to see the trope that love ‘fixes’ mental illness to die. A trope I’d like to see more of? Probably enemies to lovers. I’ve never actually read a book with that trope but I know that I would live for the drama.
What do you immediately connect with when it comes to a book?
I think first and foremost is the writing style – I like both simplistic yet poignant styles, as well as over the top, elaborate styles. What’s more important is that the writing is used to show, not tell, and it fits the story that is being told.
If you could push a book on someone, what would you immediately recommend?
If your house was on fire and you could only save one book, what would it be?
Probably my signed copy of Good Omens – it was signed by Terry Pratchett. My dream goal would be to have Neil Gaiman sign it too.
What’s a book that had you floating on air out of happiness?
One of my more recent reads that I hugely enjoyed was Strange the Dreamer. It had pretty much everything I could have asked for in a YA fantasy – it actually made me want to read more YA fantasy! If you have any recommendations, please let me know!
A book that’s made an impact on you, or the world?
I’m going to have to copy Sarah and say The Hate U Give! I honestly think that it has revolutionised YA as we know it, and it is a voice that is sorely needed.
What are your favourite morally grey characters, who do you love that walks between darkness and light?
I’m honestly not sure – I think I’ll have to go with the classic of Dumbledore. (I’ve got complicated thoughts about him.)
Which book had a plot twist that you did not see coming and it made you sick with feels?
I recently also read The Exact Opposite of Okay which had a plot twist that I was absolutely not expecting. I actually gasped aloud.
Name your most anticipated releases for 2018!
My most anticipated release is definitely Leah on the Offbeat and funnily enough, Children of Blood and Bone!
Your favourite underrated or side character?
I absolutely adored Kashmir from The Girl from Everywhere – he was an amazing side character with a fascinating history.
If you’re planning on reading Children of Blood and Bone, I tag you!
