I absolutely adored The Good Immigrant, Juliet Takes a Breath and A Safe Girl to Love.

I’ve not actually read any sequels this year! I’m not much of a series person, as you can probably tell.
3. NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT YOU WANT TO
There are SO MANY! Dreadnought, A Quiet Kind of Thunder, Words on Bathroom Walls, The Story of Lizzy and Darcy and countless others! 2017 is a truly incredible year for diverse releases.
4. MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE OF THE SECOND HALF OF 2017?
What a question!! Not Your Villain and Wild Beauty!
5. BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
Definitely 10 Things I Can See From Here. I had really high hopes for it – a F/F relationship and the main character has anxiety!! I just ended up not enjoying it. Also, Follow Me Back I just found problematic. You can read my review here.
6. BIGGEST SURPRISE
Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng – like I knew it would be good, but I didn’t realise it would be THAT GOOD.
7. FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (DEBUT OR AUTHOR TO YOU)
I’ve now read both of Irenosen Okojie’s books – Butterfly Fish (a novel) and Speak Gigantular (a collection of short stories) and found both of them absolutely stunning. I also had the privilege of meeting her at my university, which was super cool.
8. NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH
I don’t tend to crush on characters, to be quite honest.
9. NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER
I really loved Kashmir from The Girl From Everywhere – while I don’t have a crush on him, he is very dreamy indeed….
10. BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
House of Leaves made me cry tears of joy when I finished it. I really enjoyed it, but because I had to read it for university I basically had to spend a week solidly reading it. If I had been able to take my time it would have been a far less painful experience!
11. A BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
Queens of Geek and The Upside of Unrequited both made me squee so hard!
12. FAVORITE BOOK TO MOVIE ADAPTATION YOU’VE SEEN THIS YEAR
OK I’m cheating on this one but – the Netflix miniseries of Series of Unfortunate Events. I absolutely cannot wait for the next ones to come out
13. FAVORITE REVIEW YOU’VE WRITTEN THIS YEAR?
My favourite post has definitely been my diverse summer releases post, but I think my favourite review has been that of Haldol and Hyacinths. Both recent posts, I know, but I think my reviewing has improved of late.
14. MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT OR RECEIVED THIS YEAR?
I thought that the newest Neil Gaiman was absolutely stunning.
15. WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?
ALL OF THEM. I really want to read Tash Hearts Tolstoy, The Underground Railroad and Hunger: A Memoir of my Body.

It is so weird – I used to adore series, but now I find it very difficult to devote that kind of time to them. At least I’m not alone!!

Ohmygosh, I am waiting sooooo anxiously and not at all patiently for more episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events! I haven’t read past book 4, and I NEED to know what happens!

The house of leaves has been on my TBR list FOREVER and now I really want to read it.
Also, was the Gaiman book good? I saw it in the bookshop a month or two ago and thought it looked great, but have seen some pretty ambiguous reviews about it?

It is fantastic – but VERY time consuming. I’m definitely going to re-read it when I have the time to absorb it all properly.
I enjoyed Norse Mythology, but that’s because I went into it knowing that it was just a simple re-telling of…well. Norse mythology. Gaiman has a little bit of a chance to throw in some of his humour and fantastical language, but it isn’t like his novels. I would recommend it to people who are interested in myths and legends rather than people who like Gaiman, if that makes sense.

I’ve been meaning to read Juliet Takes a Breath since it came out, and now that summer has started AND you’ve liked it so much I’ll definitely have to get around to it!

ahhh, you just mentioned so many fantastic contemporary releases, which just leads me to the conclusion that i need to find time (and money) to read them ASAP. i want to read queens of geek and the upside of unrequited badly. i’m sure i’ll love them.
i also don’t feel like i have a movie adaptation that i loved, but a series of unfortunate events definitely made some of my evenings better. i still prefer the original movie, though, but i’m excited for the upcoming episodes regardless.

The releases this year have been truly spectacular – maybe check out if Queen of Geek/Upside are cheaper on Kindle? They made me SO incredibly happy 🙂
This is so funny – I absolutely hated the movie adaptation when I was younger. The fact that they put the first three stories in one used to irritate me so much!

Wowie! I totally envy your reads thus far! I’ve had Everything I Never Told you buried in the bottom of my TBR list for months now – there always seems to be so much more that’s intrigued me on my way through my ever-increasing book pile!
Yay! Me too! I absolutely LOVE The Series of Unfortunate Events new Network series. I’m not too happy with the actor playing Count Olaf ( a little ‘out of place’ if ya ask me), but it’s so enjoyable to watch and be reminded of the novels I grew up with.

And oh really? I think Neil Patrick Harris is doing a pretty good job – he’s exactly how I imagined Count Olaf. But yeah, I read Series of Unfortunate Events when I was younger too, and I love rediscovering it.

Juliet Takes A Breath, Upside and Queens of Geek were all so wonderful! I really enjoyed AKQOT!! Also yikes at Follow Me Back, I read the first few chapters when I was trying to find my next read and had a feeling it wasn’t going to be represented well
