liebster award

Hello bookish friends! Hope you’ve been having a fantastic week so far. I was kindly tagged by Sarah @ Reviews and Readathons for the Liebster Award, which was incredibly kind of her – thank you!!

Rules:

  1. Thank the person who nominated you.
  2. Answer the 11 questions they’ve written for you.
  3. Nominate 11 other people (preferably those with under 200 followers)
  4. Give your nominees 11 different questions to answer.

The Questions:

  • If you could make any book into a movie, which book would it be & who would you cast as the main characters?

Ooooh, starting off tricky! It’s interesting, because I don’t tend to ‘see’ books like they’re movies in my head. So this is difficult for me to answer! Um, I’m going to say Americanah by Adichie, and I’d like Lupita Nyongo to play Ifemulu.

  • Where is your ideal reading location?

Bed!

  • What is the prettiest book cover you own?

I’ve got a copy of The Hound of the Baskervilles that looks a bit like this:

200px-Cover_(Hound_of_Baskervilles,_1902).jpg

I love the look of old, leather-bound copies of books. They look so classy on my shelves.

  • Why did you start your blog?

I originally started my blog because I wanted to get into publishing. I went to a talk by a publishing professional at my university, and she said one of the best ways to show your interest in publishing was through blogging. I didn’t realise how much I’d love blogging, and now I do it out of sheer enjoyment. The fact that it has helped me get into a Masters programme for publishing is just a bonus.

  • What’s your favorite part of blogging?

Talking to other people about books. When I was younger I didn’t really know many people who liked reading, so being able to recommend books to people, be recommended books, and discuss problematic material in recently published novels means the world to me. I also love learning how different books speak to different people.

  • If you could only read one book over and over again for the rest of your life, what would you pick?

Aaaaah!!! Why this question?! I can’t answer it, I’m sorry. I just can’t choose.

  • Do you prefer hardcovers or paperbacks? Why?

Paperbacks, for purely practical reasons. Easier and lighter to carry around, and I can fit more of them on my shelves. I’m not really one of those people who needs a beautiful, first-edition hardback copy of books that I love. It would be nice, but $$$$$!

  • What do you use as bookmarks, generally speaking? (If you’re a dog-earer, you can confess that, too!)

Whatever is in my purse (often receipts) or yeah. I’m a dog-earer. *ducks tomatoes*

  • What is the best bookish event you’ve ever been to? What did you enjoy about it?

I’ve not been able to attend many, but last year I attended the Stratford-upon-Avon literature festival, which I thoroughly enjoyed. There were loads of different talks by authors, such as Sophie Hannah and Janet Ellis. I’d never met an author before, so it was very exciting for me to get my books signed.

  • What is one of your reading goals for this year?

To finish the 2017 Diversity Bingo! I’ve had to slow down a bit in the last month or so because I’ve been really busy with life stuff and university, but I’m hoping that I can smash it over the summer.

  • How many books do you read a year?

Around 150, I’d say. This year is the first time I’m properly keeping track, but I’m a pretty fast reader, and I have to read a LOT for my English Degree.

I Nominate:

Rachel @ Life of a Female Bibliophile

Lauren @ Wonderless Reviews

Dina @ dinasoaur

Jackie B @ Death by Tsundoku

Shouni @ Through the Book Portal

Glaiza @ Paper Wanderer

Izzi @ Ravenclaw Book Club

A.J. @ Lacy Literacy

Ce @ cewritesx

My Questions to You:

  1. What was your favourite childhood book?
  2. If you could be friends with one character from a book, who would it be?
  3. Has a book been ruined for you because of the hype?
  4. Do you write? Why or why not?
  5. What will encourage you to read a book? Blurb, recommendation by a friend, certain themes or authors…?
  6. What book has surprised you the most this year?
  7. What are you currently reading?
  8. Name a movie adaptation that was (in your opinion) better than the original book.
  9. When did you start blogging?
  10. What do you think of ebooks?
  11. How have books changed your life?

Enjoy!

Congratulations on the award! And thank you for tagging me! 🙂 150 books per year?? HOW?! Do you know how hard it is for me to get to 50?? I also love old leather-bound copies of books, they’re just so pretty to look at. Good luck with the rest of the BINGO board, it looks like you’ve got a lot of reading done already.

Thanks, and no worries! And haha, I read a lot because I read for university and for the blog. I’m also a really fast reader, which helps a lot. Sometimes I worry that I read too fast, and that I miss important stuff, though!

Thank you for tagging me! I also could see Lupita Nyongo playing Ifemulu for a movie adaptation of Americanah by Adichie. She would be an excellent choice. I wish I participated in the 2017 Diversity Bingo though. Life has been too hectic for me to focus on any kind of reading challenges this year.

No worries! And you could always try to finish a line or two of the diversity bingo, if doing the whole board would be too much? I can totally understand that, though – this year has been SO BUSY for me too!

I honestly had no idea dog-earring pages was so frowned upon until I started blogging 😂 I used to do it ALL the time. I’ve stopped now, but only because I’ve actually got bookmarks otherwise I’d still be doing it.

Thanks for the nomination ♥ I’ve done this one already, but I really love your questions so I might do it again 😀
