monthly wrap-up: march

So after I had a discussion here on my blog a couple of weeks back about monthly wrap-ups, I thought it would be interesting to try one out!

My goals:

Read 150 books: according to goodreads, I have read 42 books out of 150, which means I am 5 books ahead of schedule. I’m pretty happy with that! I know this is going to take a hit once I start my exams, but I’m definitely on track.

Try more genres: I need to work on this one. I’ve definitely read more SFF which has been fantastic, but like last year I’ve been reading a lot of contemporary YA. Which is fine, but I need to branch out still. I’m currently reading some non-fiction and poetry through.

Read more ARCs: ok, so I’ve definitely been requesting more ARCs, but whether I’m actually reading them is another question. However, I have read ARCs of Noteworthy, Upside of Unrequited, Peter Darling, and various comics.

Keep track of what I read: I’ve definitely not been doing this. On goodreads I have a general number, but I really need to update my spreadsheet that documents my books properly – how many fiction/nonfiction, how many are diverse, etc.

Complete the 2017 Diversity Bingo: I’ve read 19 out of 36 books, so that’s pretty good! Most of them were in January and February, though. But hopefully in the next few months I’ll get back on track. I’m hoping to get a lot of reading done over this summer.

So that was my first ever monthly wrap-up! Enjoy x

If you want SFF recs, you know where to find me. That’s the largest section of things that I read (barely, this year, according to my spreadsheet.) I also have been branching out with nonfiction this year, though it hasn’t always been good. Update your spreadsheet! I wanna see it!

Yay! I’m glad you decided to try it out. I love these sorts of posts.

Out of curiosity, you published 4 book reviews, but did you read those books in March? I find that my month end reviews are often super long, and I feel like I might want to cut them down. But I’m struggling with how to do so. In your case, I think this is perfect. I love the easy access to previous things I might have missed. PARTICULARLY your Mental Health Monday series. Those are my favorite posts. 🙂

The goal wrap-up is cool. I’m good at tracking my reads, but not reviewing them in a timely fashion. Oh well. Baby steps for us all, right?

      Thanks!
I read Upside and Peter Darling in March, and the other two in February. I’ve not had a lot of time to read – I was quite surprised that I’d only written four book reviews in March!
Yay, thank you!!! MHM is turning out to be my favourite post to write 🙂
That’s definitely a goal for next month!

Wendy, you are BRILLIANT! I love how much you post throughout the month, and the variety of it all. So good. Would love to learn more tips and tricks from you, because I adore your blog. Curious about the spreadsheet and the diversity bingo. Can you please explain how they work and where you found the resources for that? I would love to read more diversely, sure, but also keep track of how I am reading. That sounds pretty nice.

Oh, thank you so much 🙂

The spreadsheet idea I got from Candid Ceillie – unfortunately I can’t figure out a way of attaching a picture of it to comments, but I can DM it to you on twitter maybe? (Technology is not my friend.)

I talked about the 2017 Diversity Bingo here: https://whatthelog.wordpress.com/2017/01/02/diversity-bingo-2017/ It is such a good project because even though I do try and read as diversely as possible, it really highlights the areas of oversight for me. It isn’t too late to try and do at least a couple of rows! There’s a twitter hashtag too, where people have posted loads of recommendations for every single square.

      *hugs back*
