18th july – 25th july bookish roundup

As everyone and their mum is aware, 2016 San Diego Comic Con has arrived!! Plenty of book news has been revealed, including the final volume of Rep. John Lewis’ graphic memoir March. Margaret Atwood is also coming out with a graphic novel, entitled Angel Catbird, which sounds darling. Finally, Google has launched Bubble Zoom, which helps when reading on a phone or ipad. Apparently, one of its features is that it enlarges the words in comics so reading is easier. Interesting!

I’ve died.

The winner of the Daily Mail/Penguin Random House First Novel Competition is Amy Lloyd for Red River. It sounds a bit like a fictionalised version of the Netflix series The Making of a Murderer (which is definitely worth a watch). The novel is to be published in 2017.

The Stratford-upon-Avon Literary Festival (review here) and the Independent Publishers Guild have created a children’s picture book competition. This is to fit with the festival’s 2017 theme, Sharing Stories. I definitely hope I’ll be able to pop up and meet the winner/the shortlisted contestants, because everything from Stratford Literary Festival is brilliant.

Finally – the Cursed Child is ALMOST HERE. I am so annoyed that I’m working that Sunday. I’d give anything to go to another Harry Potter launch. However, hopefully everyone else will find the time to pop down to their local bookstore and join in the Potter mania. Have fun, and don’t drink too much firewhisky.

That’s all from me – hope you have a happy Monday.
