Don’t worry. There will be no talk of ‘Twilight’ here.
I think that even some of the most refined bibliophiles have books that are guilty pleasures to read. Here are some of mine:
- Anything by Georgette Heyer. These are kind of like naughty Jane Austens, and I absolutely love every single one of them. (‘The Reluctant Widow’ is the best one. Check it out.)
- The Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. I haven’t actually watched the TV series, but I do have to say, they have cast Jamie very well. *fans self*
- Bill Bryson. I kind-of grew up reading him – I’ve always found him accessible and fun (at least until his books grew to 1000 pages). He’s a great Sunday-afternoon read. Easy, funny, lovely.
- The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. I need to pick this series back up again, actually. Witty and fun, these are romantic romps through Victorian England. (Oh, and the vampires and werewolves? Actually sexy. Stephanie Meyer? Something is to be learned here.)
Some honourable mentions: ‘Circle of Friends’: Maeve Binchy, the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan, and ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’ by Philippa Gregory.
Have you got any guilty reads? Let me know!
